red 1950s tulle strapless ball gown

red 1950s tulle strapless ball gown

An absolutely exquisite original 1950’s strapless party/prom dress in an ethereal tiered crimson red tulle. Pictured here with an extra underskirt for full dramatic effect! This style typifies the 50’s - oh so feminine and figure flattering – narrow boned bodice perfect to accentuate a narrow waist – with a twirling full skirt. The remnant of a maker’s label confirms that this dress was professionally made. No fabric contents label but this is a synthetic, likely nylon blend.

Note the special details on this wonderful dress – strapless (boned) bodice in bust enhancing ruched effect, cinched waistline and especially the wonderfully full skirt, trimmed in cascading tiers of crimson tulle. There are three layers to the skirt – a red satin acetate lining, followed by a single layer of red tulle to give the skirt extra body, topped with the final layer of tiered tulle. Note the front hemline is longer than the sides and rear of the skirt ; this is by design and is quite typical of similar gowns from this era. The dress is photographed using a crinoline to show the skirt to full advantage – the extra underskirt is not included.

The dress closes down the centre back with a hidden metal zipper and fastener. The entire dress is lined in satin acetate.

No vintage size label, so please see measurements below for a proper fit.
